NIKKI ROBERTSON

My Story

Growing up, I had one career in mind. I was going to be a sports physiotherapist. I had never even consider education as a future career.

When I finished school, I had the opportunity to support some students in a local special needs school. And this is where things quickly changed for me.

Luckily, I have a very supportive family and they supported my decision to completely change my future career path. I knew where my true destiny was. And that was within special education.

Now, through all my courses and training, nothing prepared me for what to expect when I first walked into an autism classroom on my first day.

No text book or manual had prepared me for what I was about to see, or what I needed to do in order to support these students.

And this became clear to me very quickly, that teachers all around the world were feeling exactly the same as I did that first day. Overwhelmed. Fear of failure. How am I going to get everything done? What am I doing? So many feelings, so little time.

I decided, alongside my job, that I would start to research everything about autism and special needs.

I spent hours with my nose buried inside a book, attending training courses - both in person and online. I took webinars, and attended seminars. I wanted to have as much knowledge as I could to ensure that I was providing the best possible support and opportunities for the students that I work with.

It was from this time and devotion that I built a large amount of knowledge, skills and experience. With over 8 years of experience working within an autism classroom, and special needs school.

Suddenly, I was helping to create training courses for teachers in other schools in our county. Then, further afield, and before I knew it all over the world.

I gained myself a reputation of creating engaging, hands-on and differentiated resources that students loved.

People would talk about my resources everywhere. I had teachers contacting me asking if I can make resources for them. Or help them set up their classrooms.

It was then that I knew I could be the support system to all of these teachers, that I never had when I first started. I could truly make a difference in the lives of not only teachers and education professionals, but their students and families all around the world.

Fast forward to now. I have an online self-paced training course that is perfect for autism and special education teachers - no matter how new or experienced you are.

I have a blog that is full of information, as well as a podcast.

I have a popular VIP mailing list. The professionals on this list get access to all my news first, monthly free resources and access to my free resource library.

But, best of all, I get to connect with education professionals all around the world and hear how my story has helped them. How my work helps them become better at their job. I'm able to provide them with the opportunity to have a better work/life balance.

When I was creating this page, I struggled to find words to sum up who I am. So, I asked some friends to do that for me.
